Charlotte Hughes

Charlotte Betler Hughes grew up in West Virginia earning degrees from West Virginia University and University of Delaware. During her formative years she dabbled creatively with occasional classes in charcoal, acrylic, ceramics, pottery and fiber arts. Charlotte always appreciated the fine arts, especially watercolor, and this appreciation grew with visits to art museums and exhibits. After thirty-five years of teaching, Charlotte retired to Lewes in 2000 and soon began taking classes and workshops to try her hand at the soft, subtle, transparent beauty of watercolor. Charlotte’s art has been showcased in local exhibitions. Some of her pieces have won awards or sold; others have been donated to fundraisers. Charlotte continues to study with local and nationally known artists to expand her knowledge and find her own niche in watercolor. Her work often focuses on nature and the beauty of the outdoors. A Delaware Watercolor Society Signature Artist, she finds her time with watercolors enjoyable and profoundly relaxing, and, while perhaps she has not yet established her own style, she finds the process of the search extremely exciting!
