First Place- Bicycle Shop by Christine Heyse uses a well planned composition and use of warm and cool colors to draw us into this wonderfully nostalgic feeling space. The way the diffuse light comes in through the windows was rendered brilliantly. A strong painting overall in the artist use of composition, drawing and color theory, in addition to the handling of the medium. Bravo! (Award sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society).
Second Place- Frolic and Friends by Devin Lulu has a great contrast of hard and soft edges to give us a sense of space and tell the story of diffused light in this very well rendered piece. The dance between the variety of textures used makes for an exciting experience in this quiet scene. Salute!
Third place- Red Rose by Anne Crown-Cyr gives us the bold and intimate look at this beautifully rendered floral piece. A very strong composition in the use of diagonals adds to the excitement of this piece, Bellisimo!
Merit Award-Baby Ballerina by Leslie Lesko is a joy to behold. The abstraction and the energy of the background contrast the focus and serene look of the dancer to create a very pleasing painting!
Merit Award- Spring Runoff by Joan Judge is a complicated scene handled very well. The viewers eye is led down the river; the textures of foliage and angles of rock engage the eye to explore all around the piece. Also, a nice use of tone and hard and soft edges creates a sense of space.
Merit Award- LV – 118 by Brad Hastings. I really enjoy the graphic quality of this piece. Well rendered with a strong composition!
